Scavenger hunt by rail from Nuremberg – a game for all the family

Go on a scavenger hunt – a playful way to discover Franconia. There's a whole load of activities for travellers big and small around the region's stations.

Start small in Nuremberg

The trip starts at Nuremberg main station with the first activity: find out when the next train to Fürth leaves (every ten to 20 minutes). Since the train runs very regularly, this leaves enough time for activity number two: get a pretzel for every family member. The ones from the Franconian baker Kolb are particularly crisp. It usually has two stalls: one in the station's central hall and one in the passage area to the city centre.

Experience nature in Fürth

Well supplied with rations, we travel on to Fürth (the journey takes ten minutes). The next activity awaits us there – find the city park. If it takes longer than a quarter of an hour, you've probably taken a wrong turn somewhere. No worries, the journey is the destination on a scavenger hunt. Once you've reached the park, there's plenty to be done – look for the open-air stage, the city park pond and café one after the other. Find out the price of hot chocolate (EUR 2.30). Still hungry? Then take a pit stop there.

Enjoy yourself and test your puzzle abilities in Forchheim

Walk back to the station and stock up on puzzle books or other magazines in the newsagent – this will make the 38-minute journey by train fly. Once you've arrived in Forchheim, travel towards the town centre and look for the Wiesent river. Enjoy a coffee or hot chocolate in the "Kaffeerösterei Bogatz" coffee roasting house if you have a little slump in energy. Here's where the magazines come in handy again – while your children occupy themselves with puzzles, comics, etc., slip away briefly and hide some treasure in the town park (around six minutes by foot) – such as a card game for the train journey. After some refreshment, the next activity starts: looking for the treasure in Forchheim town park. Found it? Then go back to the station and return to Nuremberg.

A final feast in Nuremberg

The scavenger hunt comes to a close in Nuremberg. Walk along the Königstraße street past the Lorenzkirche church towards the Pegnitz river. Find the Fleischbrücke bridge with the ox and pass by the main market. Walk up the hill to the castle and choose your path – depending on the time and temperature, you can, for example, eat an ice cream, enjoy the sunset, watch the hustle and bustle in the streets below through the telescopes by the castle or get a bite to eat, e.g. in the "Restaurant Burgwächter" right by the castle walls or in the "Kellerlokal Raubritter".
