DB Museum Nuremberg: Over 150 years of railway history

Have you ever wondered how people travelled by train a hundred years ago? Or would you like to see what King Ludwig II of Bavaria's saloon carriage looked like? Then visit the DB Museum in Nuremberg.

Journey into the history of the railway

The oldest railway museum in the world takes you on a 6,800 square metre journey through the history of the railway: from the world's first railway from England to the first German steam locomotive "Adler" and the modern ICE. You can even discover some of the historic vehicles in the original: See for yourself the comforts of Otto von Bismarck's saloon carriage, marvel at the velvet upholstery and gold decorations in King Ludwig II's carriage or experience the charm of the oldest German passenger carriage.

Experience a historic platform and authentic vehicles

The lively journey into the past continues in the outdoor area: just a few steps away from the exhibition, you will find yourself directly on a historic platform - surrounded by authentic vehicles, signal boxes and signalling systems, you can experience the atmosphere of times long past. On the 15,000 square metre open-air area, you can find out how infrastructure and technologies have developed over the centuries.

Attention model railway fans: The 80 square metre layout

For fans of model railways, the DB Museum has a large model railway layout. On 80 square metres, 30 small trains such as ICEs, steam locomotives and passenger carriages rattle over tracks with a total length of 500 metres, winding their way through tunnels, over mountains and past stations on a scale of 1:87.

Children can become train drivers themselves

The highlight for children: the KIBALA children's railway land. On 1,000 square metres, the little ones can playfully discover the railway, listen to exciting stories, solve puzzles, explore the exhibition in the Liliput train, create their own Playmobil railway world or become train drivers themselves in the driving simulator. Participation and touching is expressly permitted!

Just a quarter of an hour's walk from the museum, the Bratwurst Röslein awaits you with hearty specialities.

How to get to the DB Museum: on foot from the station

It is an eight-minute walk from Nuremberg Central Station to the museum. First walk westwards from the station along Frauentorgraben until you turn left into Lessingstraße. After 140 metres you have reached your destination.

From the museum to Bratwurst Röslein: a short route description

To get to Bratwurst Röslein, walk northwards from the museum grounds along Lessingstraße. This becomes Kartäusergasse after the Frauentor wall. Follow it until you reach Kornmarkt, where you turn right. After 200 metres, turn left into Pfannenschmiedsgasse to the end of the street. Turn right onto Karolinenstraße and after a few metres turn left again onto Königstraße. Follow it and cross the Pegnitz on the bridge. On the other bank, the road is now called Plobenhofstraße. Just continue straight ahead. After 170 metres, you will come to a street called Hauptmarkt. Follow it to Rathausplatz. Here you will find the Bratwurst Röslein (house number 6).
