Hiking tour in Franconian Switzerland
During springtime, all the fountains in Franconian Switzerland are adorned with the most splendid and festive decorations. On your hike through the region, you'll even pass an astounding world record.
Idyllic villages, breathtaking vistas and gentle valleys: In Franconian Switzerland, avid hikers are in their element, whatever the season. Spring is a particularly good time for a visit. During Holy Week and in the two weeks after Easter Sunday, you'll encounter fountains with magnificent decoration in over 200 communities. Adorning town fountains with colourful eggs, garlands and flowers has been a cherished tradition for over 100 years. The Easter fountain in the town of Bieberbach in Egloffstein has even made it into the Guinness Book of Records twice for being the largest Easter fountain in the world, complete with 11,108 hand-painted eggs. If you'd like to admire the fountain for yourself – which is always decorated in the most original fashion – you can catch bus 226 to Bieberbach from Gräfenberg station. The journey takes around half an hour.
