Snowkiting in the Franconian Forest

The region of Helmbrecht in the Franconian Forest is a particular favourite with experienced snowkiters. The region around Steinbach am Wald is also an ideal spot for this winter sport.

Snowkiting in the Franconian Forest

So it's mid-winter, but you'd give anything to ride some waves... Well, how about this instead: clip yourself into some skis or a snowboard and race across a vast, snow-covered field at top speed, pulled along by a kite. It's called snowkiting. The high Franconian Forest region – in the most northern part of Bavaria – is the ideal place for this activity; there is a lot of space, the snow is relatively safe and the winds can reach incredible speeds. The Helmbrecht region is a particular favourite with experienced snowkiters. Although the region around Steinbach am Wald is also a superb location for this sport.
