Family-friendly cross-country skiing tour in the Ammergau Alps Nature Park

The Hans Reicherl loop from Oberammergau towards Ettaler Mühle is ideal for the whole family: 7.5 kilometres long, with moderate gradients and wide lanes. The excursion starts at Oberammergau railway station. It is about a five-minute walk to the start of the cross-country ski trail: once you arrive at the station, walk about 100 metres along Bahnhofstraße towards Ammer and turn right into Reisachweg. Here you will also find the local sporting goods retailer Sport-Zentrale Papistock, where you can hire the necessary equipment if required. From the hire shop, you can reach the trail entrance for the Weidmoos circuit after 250 metres along the Ammer.

Cross-country skiing: a sporty shared experience for young and old

A cross-country skiing tour is the ideal family event: on an easy route with just a few metres in altitude, children can keep up with the fitness level and are guaranteed to have lots of fun with cross-country skis on their feet. The almost 7.5-kilometre-long circular tour takes you along the Ammer and through the Ettaler Weidmoos nature reserve. The tour is categorised as easy and takes around 30 minutes. On sunny days, the route hardly leads you into shady sections and once again impresses with its picturesque landscape panorama. Experience tip: From the end of February onwards, you can see fantastic sunsets here.

A hearty refreshment

Treat yourself to a hearty meal after your cross-country skiing tour: after your cross-country skiing experience, you will arrive back at the starting point in Reisachweg, from where you can head to the restaurant at the Hotel Restaurant Ammergauer Hof in Bahnhofstraße, 150 metres away. Guests of all ages are guaranteed to find what they are looking for on the menu with Turkish and international dishes. Vegetarian visitors also get their money's worth here. Round off your cross-country skiing trip in the cosy restaurant before setting off on your return journey from Oberammergau train station, 80 metres away.

Even more cross-country skiing fun in the Ammergau Alps

If this tour has whetted your appetite for more cross-country ski trails in the Ammergau Alps, you can try out one of the other trails in the 180 km network. Look forward to a great mix of forest and sunny trails and a wonderful landscape. Many of the trails, for example the Ettaler Runde or the Graswangrunde, start directly at the Attaler Mühle, the finish of the Hans Reicherl Runde.
