Up to the most northerly lookout point in Bavaria: the Thüringer Warte tower is less then 200 metres away from the border between Bavaria and Thuringia (which was previously part of the GDR). The observation tower was a “window into the GDR” up until the fall of the Berlin wall. A permanent exhibition inside the tower gives you a look back at this time. And even today it offers a unique view over Upper Franconia and Thuringia, making the approximately half hour hike from Ludwigsstadt worthwhile. You can find hiking maps at the tourist information point, about a ten-minute walk from the station.
