Discover Wassertrüdingen: Small town, relaxing getaway
Historical flair, modern parks, and plenty of peace and quiet by the water: nestled between Hesselberg and Wörnitz, the small town of Wassertrüdingen is surprisingly big when it comes to recreation, culture, and regionality.
Wassertrüdingen surprises visitors with its combination of a medieval town center and spacious parks. Especially since the Bavarian State Garden Show in 2019, the town has been bursting with greenery: Wörnitzpark is perfect for a stroll, Klingenweiherpark delights visitors with its golden footbridge and flower islands, and Sonnenuhrenpark is a wonderful example of how the community helps shape the town, as each sundial was donated by local residents. The Wörnitz river meanders between them, and you can even swim for free in the municipal river pool, which includes a slide, diving board, and children's area.
History at every turn
Wassertrüdingen was already fortified in the Middle Ages. The Törle, the striking city gate with its baroque bell tower, still reminds us of this today. The 18th-century Protestant Trinity Church is also worth a look. Along the city wall or through the half-timbered alleys, you will pass museums, small cafés, and the former moated castle. You can still view the former castle from the outside today. It is a beautiful photo opportunity and a piece of city history.
Exciting stop: the Fluvius Museum
In the middle of the old town, you will find the small but surprisingly modern Fluvius Museum – River and Pond. Here, everything revolves around the Wörnitz River and its animal inhabitants. Interactive stations bring the underwater world to life for young and old alike. While a real gray heron strolls through the reeds outside, inside you can learn what life is like underwater and why the river was and still is so important for the region. Perfect for a short break with an educational factor and a real highlight for families with children.
Stop for refreshments at the “Weißes Roß” inn
If you get hungry after your walk through Wassertrüdingen, the “Weißes Roß” inn is the place to go. This family-run establishment in the heart of the old town serves Franconian specialties and seasonal dishes. The cozy beer garden right next to the city wall is a particularly nice place to sit. Here you can enjoy a freshly tapped beer under shady trees. The beer garden is also a popular stop for cyclists on the Wörnitz Cycle Route.
VGN leisure tip: Culture and water around Wassertrüdingen

If you like, you can extend the tour and take the 825 leisure bus to the LIMESEUM in the Ruffenhofen Roman Park, a multimedia museum that brings the life of the Romans on the border of the empire to life.
