Bavaria and its natural attractions: the most beautiful excursions
Nature is the best place for us to relax. Whether it's a mountain panorama, a hike with animal companions or a walk surrounded by exotic plants: excursions into nature allow us to leave everyday life behind.
Nature offers us the best opportunities to relax and recharge our batteries. Enjoy the impressive view of the mountains, go on a hike with four-legged friends, or take a walk that enchants you with the beauty and power of water. Excursions into nature allow us to leave everyday life behind and concentrate entirely on the here and now - whether alone, with your circle of friends or with the family. We have put together the best tips for a change of air on a day trip in Bavaria. The best thing is that you can reach all destinations quite comfortably by train. Nothing stands in the way of an unforgettable day trip, including exploring Bavaria's sights in nature!
The Partnachklamm - a fascinating gorge in the heart of nature
This excursion into nature by train will show you the beauty and power of nature. Your destination: the Partnachklamm gorge. This breathtaking gorge in the Reintal valley near Garmisch-Partenkirchen was formed over centuries by the force of the Partnach torrent. When you enter the gorge, you are enclosed by majestic rock walls and feel the fine mist of water on your skin. You can follow the path along the right side of the stream and marvel at the various waterfalls and rock formations. The gorge is about 700 metres long and over 80 metres deep in places. The hike through the gorge takes about an hour.
Discovering rocks and fossils: a varied hike in the Altmühl Valley
Gentle meadows and steep cliffs, idyllic river valleys and historic towns, quaint villages and modern museums - this is what awaits you on a hike along the Altmühltal Panorama Trail. On this hiking excursion by train, you start from the station in Pappenheim. You hike through a varied landscape of meadows, fields and forests to Solnhofen and on to the bizarre rock formation of the Twelve Apostles Rocks. You return to Solnhofen, a place with a long history and a special museum. Here you can admire a collection of fossils from the Jurassic period, including the two specimens of the ancient bird Archaeopteryx found nearby. Or you can relax in one of the cosy inns or cafés in the village.
By train through the Alps
Enjoy Bavaria's natural attractions in comfort on a train journey with spectacular views: the Werdenfelsbahn offers unique views of Bavaria's nature throughout the entire journey. Passing idyllic Lake Starnberg, you'll pass through the moorland in Murnau before enjoying views of the Alpine panorama in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Then it's through the Karwendel region via Tyrol directly to Innsbruck. Best of all: with the Regio-Ticket Werdenfels/+Innsbruck, you can hop on and off at the various stations throughout the day and explore several excursion destinations along the railway line in Bavaria. We wish you a good journey and lots of fun in nature!
Franconian Switzerland: natural idyll and a dose of adventure
Franconian Switzerland is a paradise for active holidaymakers and families. Whether hiking, cycling, climbing, canoeing or caving - there is something for everyone here. The region also has a lot to offer in the way of culinary delights. Especially for fans of climbing, Franconian Switzerland is a true Eldorado. The region is one of the largest climbing areas in Europe and attracts visitors with its distinctive rock landscapes. Even newcomers to climbing will find suitable routes here or can attend a climbing course.
Get close to nature with animal companions
Hikes with an absolute relaxation factor - thanks to animal companions who radiate an infectious calm. Alpacas are known for their gentle character and are also the perfect hiking companions. In the Zugspitzdorf in Grainau, very close to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, you can go hiking with the fluffy llamas with a view of imposing mountain ranges. In addition to alpacas, donkeys are also considered the perfect companions for extensive walks in nature: get to know the long ears intensively in Starnberg, for example - the donkeys' empathy is sure to make you slow down quickly.
